reason of the season..

Part III of the “Reason for the Season” series.

By team KGKL and Shine Brightly for Christ co-founder Alpha Pallarca

Christmas has come and gone, but do you what we are really celebrating for?

Behind the gifts…What is left when all of the gifts have been open?
Behind the lovely or not so lovely sweaters…What is there to wear after those sweaters have been worn out?
Behind the festive decorations…What is there to look at after those decorations have been taken down?
Behind the Christmas tree…What is there to put in our homes after the leaves have withered?
Behind the dinners and gatherings… What is there to feed us after the food has run out?

There is one single thing that could satisfy all of those.
The reason of this season…the birth of our savior JESUS CHRIST.
The important character behind all the madness.

As John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

So it is not all about the gifts, the food, the decorations and other holiday decor that we are so into.
That is not what this event is all about.
From the word itself, Christmas…CHRIST–it is about HIM.
HIM being born to this earth…living a holy life yet being punished from the sins HE didn’t commit.
And those sins were our sins.
HE had to bear and overcome death so HE can save us from sin and that we can have a new life through HIS sacrifice.
That through HIM we can come to the Father, repent and be called the children of GOD.
Isn’t that amazing? Doesn’t it make you speechless? Don’t you just want to burst in tears?

So next time you were feeling bitter about that gift you got or didn’t get,
Take a time to come into silence.
Reflect on God’s amazing act of love.
Thank HIM for what HE has done and
realize what this season is all about.

Happy Birthday Jesus
Thank you for saving us

Jesus’ Christmas letter to us..

Part II of the “Reason for the Season” series.

Dear All,

As you well know, we are getting closer to my birthday.  Every year there is a celebration in my honor and I think that this year the celebration will be repeated.

During this time there are many people shopping for gifts, there are many radio announcements, TV commercials, and in every part of the world everyone is talking that my birthday is getting closer and closer.

It is really very nice to know, that at least once a year, some people think of me.

As you know, the celebration of my birthday began many years ago.

At first people seemed to understand and be thankful of all that I did for them, but in these times, no one seems to know the reason for the celebration.

Family and friends get together and have a lot of fun, but they don’t know the meaning of the celebration. I remember that last
year there was a great feast in my honor. The dinner table was full of delicious foods, pastries, fruits, assorted nuts and
chocolates. The decorations were exquisite and there were many, many beautifully wrapped gifts.

But, do you want to know something? I wasn’t invited.

I was the guest of honor and they didn’t remember to send me an invitation.

The party was for me, but when that great day came, I was left outside, they closed the door in my face and I wanted to be
with them and share their  table.

In truth, that didn’t surprise me because in the last few years all close their doors to me. Since I wasn’t invited, I decided to
enter the party without making any noise. I went in and stood in a corner.

They were all drinking; there were some who were drunk and telling jokes and laughing at everything. They were having a grand time.

To top it all, this big fat man all dressed in red wearing a long white beard entered the room yelling Ho-Ho-Ho!  He seemed drunk. He sat on the sofa and all the children ran to him, saying:  ”Santa Claus, Santa Claus” as if the party were in his honor!

At midnight all the people began to hug each other; I extended my arms waiting for someone to hug me and do you know no-one hugged me.

Suddenly they all began to share gifts.  They opened them one by one with great expectation. When all had been opened, I looked to see if, maybe, there was one for me.  What would you feel if on your birthday everybody shared gifts and you did not get one?

I then understood that I was unwanted at that party and quietly left.

Every year it gets worse.  People only remember the gifts, the parties, to eat and drink, and nobody remembers me.

I would like this Christmas that you allow me to enter into your life.

I would like that you recognize the fact that almost two thousand years ago I came to this world to give my life for you, on the
cross, to save you.

Today, I only want that you believe this with all your heart.

I want to share something with you. As many didn’t invite me to their party, I will have my own celebration, a grandiose party
that no one has ever imagined, a spectacular party. I’m still making the final arrangements.

Today I am sending out many invitations and there is an invitation for you.  I want to know if you wish to attend and I will make a reservation for you and write your name with golden letters in my great guest book.

Only those on the guest list will be invited to the party.

Those who don’t answer the invite, will be left outside. Be prepared because when all is ready you will be part  of my great
party.

See you soon.

Love,

Jesus Christ

reason for the season..

Part I of the “Reason For the Season” series.

By Team KGKL Joshua De Gracia

As Christmas is only a day away, we have seen the colorful lights around town, the mad shopping rush for presents and the simple “busyness” of the holiday season.  Now is the time to stop and reflect just why we really celebrate this time of the year. Yes, the opening gifts and dinners with friends with family are great, but as Christians, we need to remember the real meaning of Christmas and the “real” reason we are celebrating.

If there were no Jesus, there would be no Christmas.

Matthew 12:18-21

“Here is my servant whom I have chosen, the one I love, in whom I delight;
I will put my Spirit on him, and he will proclaim justice to the nations.
19He will not quarrel or cry out; no one will hear his voice in the streets.
20A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out,
till he leads justice to victory.
21In his name the nations will put their hope.

God sent His one and only son to live amongst us in the flesh so that we may have a hope and a future.

I don’t know about you guys but I love Christmas. I love walking around town looking at the lights, enjoying in its festivities, dressing up with warm clothes and scarves and of course singing Christmas songs. The songs are a testament in itself. You think of the key words or verses that you may actually know about certain songs such as, “Joy to the world” or “Hark, the herald angels sing” or “Emmanuel.” I’ll be honest, “hark, the herald angels sing..fa la la la” are the only words of the song I actually know. You can use these songs as a evangelistic tool when you hang out with your friends. I’m serious, take a time out and realize the real meaning of what the songs are about. Jesus! Next time you’re at a dinner, driving in the car or shopping with friends and they start singing, ask them if they know the meaning behind the song. To get people to get to know Him, all we need is an open door of opportunity and this may be it.

Christmas is one of the two major “open-times” I like to call them (the other being Easter) when people actually attend church. Be bold and courageous and take that step to invite someone to come to a relationship with Him. These next few days, give your friend or family the best gift of all—the gospel of Jesus. Remember the ONE who is the reason for the season and use this time to do as God intended and spread His word to the world.

To all of you..Merry Christmas on behalf of team KnowGodKnowLove

James 1:13-15

When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; 14but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. 15Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.”

This picture really inspired me about today’s message.

Temptation is not a sin. It is if we act upon those temptations in an unrighteous way, then we sin.

I think of our sin as rain drops. When it first starts to rain, it rains one drop at a time. We feel nothing of the impact it has on us because they are so small and we think nothing of it. Then it starts raining harder to the point where what started as harmless drops of water  now turn into puddles eventually an overflowing. Once the rivers overflow, it can lead to flooding and destruction.

Don’t get me wrong, we sin everyday. I can’t keep track of how many times I sin per day. Every time we give in to sin, we compromise our walk with God. What might seem as a harmless act can eventually lead to death. Like it says in the verse above “sin, when full grown, gives birth to death.”

Let’s think of some real life examples. So you are hanging out and you see a beautiful looking girl/guy and you take a few extra looks and have dirty thoughts about that person (lust). You think nothing of it at first and the two of you decide to hang out. As the two of you hang out more, the temptation of sexual desire lingers and you drop your spiritual and physical boundries because you have been blinded by sin. Since you can’t stop those raging hormones and are unable to stop the temptation, the two of you fornicate (have sex before marriage). BAM..the little drop that started as lust developed in sex and death to your spiritual life.

The awesome thing is that God created us to be overcomers. With Him, all thing are possible. Overcoming any type of sin, temptation and/or tribulation can be done through Him and Him alone.
